HYBRID
361 University Avenue, 2nd floor
Toronto, Ontario M5G 1T3

Welcome to the Gun Show and Tell! This is not your typical education program. This one has guns.

Want more in-depth knowledge about firearms generally and firearm prosecutions? Join our firearm experts as they showcase the various classifications of firearms, their implications, and how to apply this knowledge to your practice.

This program is presented by TLA’s Criminal Committee.

This program is relevant to civil counsel, criminal defence, and Crowns alike.

Topics of discussion include:
Part I – Basic Firearm Regulatory Framework

  • advising your client on legal firearm possession, and legal issues that can arise from owning firearms.
    • This can include problems associated when a legal gun owner passes away and the implications to the trustee or family members.
  • turning over firearms to police, and public safety issues that arise from mental health complaints, domestic assault complaints, among others.
  • the impact on legal firearm ownership.

Part II – Basic Firearm Prosecution

  • most common offences, key sections, areas that cause difficulty.
  • a brief legislative update (for example Federal government had proposed bans on various weapons and has now walked that back).
  • impact of DNA and fingerprints or lack thereof on a prosecution
  • examples of gun investigations.

For Part I & II, information will be shared and discussed using various common scenarios.

Part III – The Gun Show

In an interactive discussion, Officer Passmore will provide attendees with a look at the various weapons seized by police in prior investigations.

Enjoy a fun mix and mingle after the program. Meet the speakers. Make new friends and catch up with colleagues. Light refreshments will be served.
