The past year had already witnessed significant changes in employment law. Then COVID-19 hit and the world, and workplaces, were suddenly and dramatically transformed. Learn about these many changes from our diverse panel of practitioners. Hear from all sides. Our diverse panel is comprised of counsel from employment and management sides and an investigator.

Panelists:

  • Rishi Bandhu, Bandhu Law Professional Corporation
    Rishi Bandhu practices labour and employment law out of Oakville, Ontario. Rishi is a 1998 graduate of high distinction from the University of Toronto, Trinity College; he received his LLB from Osgoode Hall in 2003. He was called to the Ontario Bar in 2004.

    His practice since that time has been focused on labour and employment matters, exclusively. His experience and expertise ranges from labour relations, including labour arbitration proceedings and collective bargaining, to civil litigation of employment law disputes and workplace investigations. He advises and represents employers in Human Rights proceedings and matters before the Ontario Labour Relations Board. He is an instructor at the University of Toronto’s School of Continuing Studies for Industrial/Labour Relations.

  • Ellen Low, Ellen Low Employment Law
    Ellen founded Ellen Low Employment Law in 2018 to provide a select group of individuals and small businesses with strategic advice, critical evaluations, and pragmatic advocacy on all facets of employment and human rights law.

    She has been working in employment and human rights for over ten years. Ellen articled at Gowlings and eventually practiced as a partner with a boutique employment-law firm.

    Ellen regularly represents her clients in court and at tribunals; but is equally well versed in mediation and arbitration advocacy where she assists clients in navigating alternative dispute resolutions and negotiated settlements.

  • Hena Singh, Singh Lamarche LLP
    Hena Singh is one of the founding partners of Singh Lamarche LLP.

    Hena assists employers and employees with workplace issues of all types – from the contemplation of an employment relationship, to assisting in its continuation, as well as termination. She has had the experience of having conducted hundreds of workplace investigations for companies and organizations of all types and sizes. She is a mediator, Certified Workplace Investigator, a Certified Compliance officer and has a B.A., a Master’s degree in Psychology and an LL.B.

    Hena is the author of the book A Practical Guide to Conducting Workplace Investigations and also the co-author of the book A Practical Guide to the Law of Terminations in Ontario.

    As a result of her formal credentials and extensive experience, Hena is a frequent presenter on various employment law, human rights, mediation and workplace investigation issues, and is recognized for providing her clients with practical and tailored solutions to employment issues.

    Shana is a partner at Sherrard Kuzz LLP, whose sophisticated expertise includes the representation of management in several areas of employment and labour law, with particular emphasis on multinational entrance into Canada, compliance and risk management, policy globalization, executive and non-executive compensation, human rights and accommodation, workplace investigations, and wrongful and constructive dismissal. Prior to joining Sherrard Kuzz LLP, Shana was Legal Counsel to a telecommunications company publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange. Shana is frequently asked to chair and speak at national conferences and for employer associations and clients. Shana is a member of the Canadian Bar Association, Ontario Bar Association (Labour & Employment, Corporate Counsel, Privacy, Civil Litigation, Constitutional, Civil Liberties, Human Rights, Workers’ Compensation), International Warehouse Logistics Association, and Law Society of Ontario.
