2026 TLA Award of Distinction Recipient - Tom Curry
The award recognizes a lifetime of excellence and contribution to the integrity and worth of the law and the legal profession.
“Tom Curry is regarded as one of Canada’s finest litigators and is certified as a specialist in civil litigation by the Law Society of Ontario, as well as being a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers,” says Anna Wong, TLA President. “Membership in the College cannot be more than one per cent of the total lawyer population of any state or province,” she adds. “Tom’s inclusion shows that he is at the top of the profession.”
Curry’s legal reputation extends internationally, underscored by his membership in the International Academy of Trial Lawyers, a 70-year-old organization that brings together the world’s most distinguished trial lawyers to learn, mentor, and advance justice. Membership in the Academy is by invitation only, following a careful vetting process. Tom is also an Honorary Overseas Member of the Commercial Bar Association in London, U.K. Honorary memberships in this group are extended only to select international lawyers who have excelled in commercial litigation or arbitration.
“Tom is widely recognised as a leading trial and appellate counsel, having represented private and public-sector clients in a broad range of matters, from class actions and business disputes to professional liability and intellectual property cases,” Wong says.
He is a regular speaker on a wide variety of subjects relating to trial practice and substantive law, and is an enthusiastic mentor, inspiring future generations with his passion and eloquence. His receipt of the Catzman Award for Professionalism and Civility in 2018, which recognizes exemplary knowledge of the law, as well as integrity, fairness and civility, highlights Curry’s exemplary career.
