Part 1: Lawyers Telling It Like It Is: What, How and Why

8:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.

David Elmaleh, co-founder of RE-LAW LLP will discuss what he looks for when working with a licensing candidate. Jennifer Arduini, Associate Lawyer at Dutton Brock, will talk about what you can do to make yourself indispensable. These 2 speakers will cover a variety of topics including communication, collaboration, managing expectations, work habits, and networking.Ray Leclair, VP of Public Affairs at LawPRO will speak on Practice Management.

Light breakfast provided.


Part 2: Legal research

10:45 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Joan Rataic-Lang, Executive Director/Library Director at the TLA’s Court House Library will cover the methodology of legal research. Linda Zardo, Reference Librarian, will set out the best sources of free research and explain how to research quickly, efficiently and exhaustively.

Part 3: Beyond Practice: Non-traditional legal careers

12:30 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.

Eric Wai, LexisNexis Canada and a panel of lawyers working in non-traditional roles will discuss the following:
  • Why choose a non-traditional route?
  • What advice would they give to themselves as an articling student?
  • What are the benefits of a non-traditional role?
  • What are the pitfalls of a non-traditional position?

The presentation will be followed by a Q&A session.
