Education and Events
The TLA offers a variety of education opportunities.
CPD Nutshell Programs
Our Nutshell Programs expand your knowledge by providing you with a practical approach to current legal issues and new legislation. They cover a wide range of topics, feature expert speakers and panelists and include excellent handouts.
TLA programs are:
- LSUC CPD accredited
- Affordable - $50 for members and $75 for non-members
- Accessible – they are held in the Lawyers Lounge at 361 University Ave.
The Training series is geared towards providing practical learning opportunities. LexisNexis Quicklaw and Westlaw Canada trainers are often onsite delivering hands-on or demonstrations of their services. The Library has also offered a Criminal Sentencing Research session and is looking to give further training sessions. Got an idea for one, call us!
Take some time to socialize and chat about areas of mutual interest in an informal and collegial atmosphere. TLA Soirees are a wonderful opportunity for the bench and bar to gather for a glass of wine, a bite to eat and conversation. They are held twice a year in the Lawyers Lounge at 361 University Avenue. Past Soirees have been organized for the Commercial Bar which included Superior Court judges, OSC Commissioners and Commercial and Securities Practitioners. We have also have had Soirees for the Criminal, Insurance and Personal Injury, Family and Estates bars.
Annual General Meeting
Every year in February the TLA has its Annual Meeting. It’s a great way to learn more about the Association. Details will be posted in January about the next meeting.
The TLA Award of Distinction is awarded for excellence of the recipients’ contribution to the integrity and worth of the law and to the legal profession. The Award is presented at the TLA Awards dinner, which is held in February or March. The event is well attended, no doubt because of the quality of the outstanding recipients who have received the award.
