There are three main categories of members in the Association: Lawyers, New Calls and Articling Students. Detailed explanations are below:

Lawyers

For persons practising law who are members of the Law Society of Upper Canada and who wish to have full membership privileges and benefits. Lawyer members pay annual dues as assessed by the Board of Trustees. Membership fees for 2016 are set at $100 plus HST.

Articling Students

Students may join the TLA for free but must have commenced an articling placement with an employer before registering.

New Calls

For lawyers called to the bar in the current calendar year (2016 calls)

Any of the three membership categories may be resident or non-resident.  A resident member is one who either has his/her principal place of residence in the Toronto region or who has his/her principal place of practice or business in the Toronto region.

If you are interested in joining the TLA, please proceed now to our Registration Page for new members or complete a 2016 New Membership Form and return as indicated.

Friends of the TLA

In addition, we welcome interest by non-members who wish to keep in touch with TLA on an ongoing basis.

Friends of the TLA are individuals in the legal community who wish to stay informed of TLA initiatives and participate in those activities open to non-members (i.e. events).  There are two categories:

i) Law Program Students - for persons currently enrolled in a university faculty of law program, LL.M., ITLP, or NCA programs; and those who have completed programs but are not yet articling (this includes LPP students who have not begun their articling placement)

ii) Legal Professionals - for persons practising law who do not otherwise meet our membership criteria and/or individuals working in a law-related field who wish to participate in TLA activities

iii) Managers at a law firm or legal organization.

If you wish to be added to our database as a non-member contact please proceed to our Registration Page and complete all fields.
